  • Program Overview: Construction Safety & Risk Management
This module introduces the Construction Safety & Risk Management Training Program. Learners will understand why safety matters on construction sites, how regulatory frameworks such as OSHA standards and ISO 45001 guide practice, and how to build a proactive safety culture. The program covers hazard identification, risk assessment, selection of controls, and processes for monitoring and continuous improvement. Real-world examples and practical tools help site supervisors, safety officers, and project managers integrate safety into daily operations from planning through project completion.
  • Incident Reporting, Investigation & Learning
Establish a reporting culture for near-misses and injuries. This slide covers investigation methods such as root cause analysis, causation chains, and corrective actions. Learners will document findings, share lessons learned, close preventive gaps, and track improvements over time.
  • Fire Safety & Emergency Response
Learn fire prevention strategies, proper storage of flammable materials, and accessible fire protection equipment. The course includes development of emergency action plans, evacuation routes, assembly points, and clear roles for warden and responders. Drills and post-incident reviews help reinforce readiness.
  • Confined Spaces & Hot Work
This module covers hazards of confined spaces, permit-to-work systems, atmospheric testing, ventilation, and rescue procedures. Hot work such as welding or grinding requires a dedicated permit, fire watch, gas detection, and control of ignition sources to prevent fires and explosions on site.
  • Excavation, Trenching & Scaffolding Safety
Excavation and trenching work poses cave-in and striking hazards, requiring competent person oversight, protective systems, and daily inspections. Scaffolding safety covers erection, access, load capacity, inspections, and fall protection. Learn to apply permits to work, maintain a safe work environment, and develop emergency escape plans for high-risk tasks.
  • Electrical Safety on Construction Sites
Electrical hazards include shock, arc flash, and fire risk on sites with temporary networks and portable tools. Topics include lockout/tagout procedures, ground fault protection, cable management, correct extension cord use, equipment maintenance, grounding, and testing. Learners will practice safe work practices around energized systems and understand emergency response steps.
  • Fall Protection & Working at Height
Falls are a leading cause of injuries on construction sites. This module covers planning for height work, selection and inspection of guardrails, safety nets, and personal fall arrest systems, and training on proper use of harnesses and lanyards. It also covers rescue planning, weather considerations, and maintaining clean, uncluttered workspaces to minimize fall risks.
  • Hierarchy of Controls in Construction
Understand the five levels of controls: elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE). The goal is to remove hazards where possible, reduce exposure, and implement protective measures that are reliable on site. Examples include redesigning tasks, guarding equipment, engineering interlocks, safety protocols, and the correct use of PPE.
  • Risk Assessment & Prioritization
Learn to assess risk by evaluating the likelihood and potential severity of hazards. Use a risk matrix to categorize risks as high, medium, or low, and determine appropriate controls. The process includes defining exposure duration, considering multiple hazards, and evaluating residual risk after applying controls. Learners will practice prioritizing actions where immediate intervention is required.
  • Hazard Identification in Construction
Identify hazards across design, procurement, and field operations. Techniques include site walkthroughs, daily toolbox talks, hazard checklists, safety observations, and job safety analyses (JSA). Learners will learn to recognize environmental, mechanical, chemical, ergonomic, and human factors that can lead to incidents, and to document hazards in a transparent manner for timely control.
  • Learning Objectives
By the end of this program, learners will be able to identify common construction hazards, assess risk using formal methods, apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or reduce risk, implement fall protection, electrical and fire safety measures, and establish effective incident reporting and investigation practices. Participants will be able to develop site-specific safety plans, communicate risks clearly to teams, and participate in continuous safety improvement activities such as audits and toolbox talks.
  • Safety Culture, Metrics & Continuous Improvement
A strong safety culture integrates leadership commitment, worker engagement, and a learning mindset. Topics include leading and lagging safety indicators, training effectiveness, audits, and management reviews. The module outlines ways to measure progress, set targets, and continuously enhance safety performance on site.
